25 Mile Ride - Essential Reading

We hope very much that you will join our Charity Bike Ride and persuade your friends to sponsor you. We know you will enjoy the day and in turn help us to raise money for worthwhile local causes.

Please remember that no children under the age of 10 are allowed on the 25 mile ride, unless they are on a 'tagged' bike. Children under 16 MUST be supervised throughout the ride.

Before the Ride

After your entry form has been accepted and processed you will receive a 'rider pack' containing:

  • Your Sponsor Form - please get as many people as possible to sponsor you for all your hard work.
  • Your personalised Bank Paying-In Slip with your rider number on it

Please don’t use any other. We cannot be held responsible for money paid in on other forms and have had problems in the past.

When you have all your sponsor money, use the form at any Lloyds TSB and it will reach our Charity Account very quickly. You don’t need a bank account of your own and Lloyds will not charge you. Lloyds will forward your paying-in slip to us and we will assign your contribution either to the Charity you rode for or to the overall Charity Fund. Please keep the receipt that Lloyds give you in case of query later.
  • Some additional Entry Forms. Get your friends and family to join you on the Ride.
  • Your Rider Number. Please wear it on your FRONT so marshals can see it and don't forget some safety pins to hold it on with.
  • A map of the route.
  • Some Charity draw tickets which we hope you may be able to sell - please bring any counterfoils and money along with you on the day.

On the day of the Ride
  • The ride will start at 10:00 am prompt. Please check-in on arrival - check-ins open at 08:30 - so we know who is on the road. We cannot confirm your worthy efforts unless we know you’ve started!!
  • There are 2 starts, each leaving immediately after each other
    • Elite riders expecting to complete the course in under 90 minutes
    • General riders for everyone else
  • Additional riders will be able to enter on the day but we will have to charge them a higher registration fee. Better to get them to register beforehand!
  • All riders must be checked in and away by 10:30 am as we have to get the Finish ready!
  • Don’t forget to bring with you your Rider Number (duly attached to your FRONT) and anything else you might want during the Ride (see below).
  • You might also want to bring along some money with you to join in the fun at Bohunt after completing the course.
  • Don’t ask friends or family to drive around the course following you in cars. Get them to go on ahead, before the start, and cheer you on at one of the stages, or better still, to stay at Bohunt to see you off and see you back We expect a large number of Riders on the road and the Police have asked us to keep the number of “camp followers” to a minimum.
  • Make sure your bike is roadworthy, safe and serviceable. Owens Cycles can prepare your bike for you before the ride.
  • Don’t forget your Helmet!!

During the Ride, please remember -

  • It is not a race - the aim is to enjoy the Ride and raise money for local charities.
  • Be considerate of other Riders, particularly at the start when everyone is bunched together.
  • If you have a younger rider with you on the main course and have agreed to supervise them, they are entirely your responsibility. Don't ride off ahead and leave them, even if they are a little slower than you would prefer.
  • If your bike breaks down or if you want to pack up, stay with your bike by the side of the road until a LiDBA Marshall or mobile repair van arrives. Please don't go home without telling a Marshall or we could waste a lot of time looking for you.
  • Refreshment points will be positioned around the course but you might want to bring some additional drinks with you, especially if it is a hot day. Still drinks are best and we strongly advise against drinking any alcohol before or during the Ride.
  • The Marshall and Refreshment points are shown on the map and will be well signposted on the day.
  • Please abide by the Highway Code - you do not have priority over other road users.
  • Continue to wear your safety helmet.

When you arrive back at Bohunt
  • Please check in with Ride Control. They will present you with your Certificate to show your sponsors.
  • Please leave carefully and responsibly. Remember other riders may still be arriving - DO NOT CROSS their path
  • When crossing the road outside Bohunt remember to look both ways for cars and bikes.
  • Please don't just forget us - WE WILL BE NEEDING YOUR SPONSOR MONEY!!

The days following the ride
  • Please gather the money in from your sponsors as quickly as possible.
  • Please use the special paying slips provided in your 'rider pack' at any branch of Lloyds TSB.

Please don’t use any other. We cannot be held responsible for money paid in on other forms and have had problems in the past.

THANK YOU - GO CAREFULLY
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY DAY
