LiDBA presents cheques

On Tuesday 4th October at the Millennium Hall, LiDBA distributed £52,081 to 80 local Charities and Causes, bringing the total amount raised by all the 21 LiDBA Bike Rides over the ¾ million pound milestone.

This year’s Bike Ride was also the first in its 21 years, to fall on one of the coldest and wettest days in June, with torrential rain and miserable conditions. Despite LiDBA’s misgivings and concerns that no one would turn up, they were proved wrong. It did not deter the riders or the stallholders who showed the Dunkirk spirit by turning up with gazebos and plastic sheets, to provide refreshments and usual stalls. One hundred and twenty-seven riders turned up on the day to join those riders already booked in, and despite everything, the total was only 10% down on the previous year.

On behalf of LiDBA, organiser Rick Beynon, thanked all those who voluntarily help out on the day, including Liphook Guides, Petersfield ATC, Liphook Scouts, St. John’s Ambulance, its Corporate Sponsors, those who give their time as marshals and also LiDBA’s wives and families and friends for their patience and support. Rick went to thank all the Charities who take part, without whom LiDBA could not hold the Bike Ride. Over eighty charities are now regularly using the LiDBA Bike Ride to raise substantial sums for their cause.

A special thank you went to Owen’s Cycles who not only support the Raffle and the printing of the raffle tickets, but also provide the invaluable Bike Repair Service on the day. With the adverse weather conditions, they were kept extremely busy along the route.

Rick went on to announce an important change for the 2012 Bike Ride – simply four words "NO HELMET, NO RIDE". All riders for the 25-mile Adult Ride, the Junior Ride participants and children who ride on a back seat of parents’ bikes and “tag along” bikes will be turned back at the start if they are found not to be correctly wearing a proper cycle helmet. Children in towed carts with “roof” may ride at their parents’ discretion. All those who attended the Presentation Evening unanimously approved of this new Policy.

The 2012 LiDBA Bike Ride will be held on Sunday June 10th.
