A History of LiDBA In 1974 a group of local radicals got together and formed The Liphook and District Young Businessmen’s Association. The Association strove to raise money for the local community while having a good time doing it. As the years passed the adjective became a local joke - the Young was dropped and LiDBA was born For many years, a Charity Auction was held at Bohunt School, not your normal quiet saleroom stuff, but the whole of the school premises were used for the whole weekend. Months were spent collecting all sorts of furniture, pianos (nobody will ever forget moving the pianos!!), toys, clothes and bric-a-brac. The best were auctioned, the rest was sold off in a giant departmental jumble sale. In 1991 the auction was replaced by LiDBA's first charity Bike Ride. This event has grown every year and is the largest Charity Fund Raising Event in the area. In 2007, £51,500 was raised for 64 local charities, causes and associations, much of it from the efforts of their own supporters. This year will see our 18th ride - so please join us on the Sunday 8th June 2008. From very early on, the members of LiDBA have aimed to be of service to the district community, particularly young and disabled, by providing physical help, vehicles for fund raising as well as our own efforts to raise cash for local deserving causes. We normally pursue these aims by means of monthly business meetings preceded by dinner at a local hostelry. These meetings are of a very lighthearted nature with a serious undertone. In between times, we have a full social calendar which includes visits to breweries, snooker, a safari supper, Go-Kart and Scalextric racing. in other words we help local organisations whilst enjoying ourselves! Each year, we raise around £50,000 and make donations to help over 60 projects and community services in Liphook, Liss and surrounding areas. LiDBA has raised nearly £500,000 in the past 30 years !
